The new updated and revised paperback edition of Confessions of an Eco-Shopper is now out in shops so this is a good point to relay some of the lovely comments I’ve received from readers that have taken the time and trouble to email me. Thanks to all to them – and please do keep sending me your comments on the book. I endeavour to reply personally and help with any queries if I can. (Kate@klockworks.co.uk)
Reader comments: ‘I just finished reading your book, and loved it! I'm recommending it to my family & friends. My Pokeno group is meeting next month at my house & the theme is eco-friendly. Can't wait to see what everyone brings. Thanks for the inspiration & information to expand my green living.’ Sheila ‘I recently read your book Confessions of an Eco-Shopper . I found it a lively and helpful read so I have written a piece about it in an article on summer reading for the July issue of Living Green which is the magazine of the Lifestyle Movement. www.lifestylemovement.org.uk I hope it encourages other people to read it.’ Gail Ballinger ‘I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I thought it was an excellent eco-book for the ordinary person; informative, entertaining and thought-provoking.’ Helen ‘I just wanted to say thank you for your great book, Confessions of an Eco-Shopper. As the mother of six children and grandma to three (soon to be four) I have been very concerned about the state of our environment and the way it will affect their lives if things don't change for the better. I have been trying to find my way through the maze of eco-friendly products, ethical produce, fair trade etc and everything feels like a trade-off for something else. However, your book has given me some great pointers and I am going to go through it again, this time with a highlighter and take notes! I borrowed the book originally from the library but feel that they might object to my hieroglyphics and fluorescent marker pen so I have bought my own copy...in fact I have purchased six copies. One for my daughter, two daughter-in-laws, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and me! I have handed them out with a sample of soap nuts which I have recently started using and the eco-challenge of making some changes to the way in which they shop.’ Carol ‘Just wanted to drop a line and say how much I enjoyed your book, particularly your section on Sanpro. I loved your honesty and the fact that, if you found something didn't work, you didn't become a martyr but accepted that it didn't fit in with your lifestyle.’ Paula ‘I've just finished reading your Confessions of an Eco Shopper, and I firstly wanted to say congratulations on your publication. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I've been interested in environmental issues most of my life (at the age of 13 I wrote to my local council to request more recycling facilities and tried to engage my neighbours in an anti litter campaign!). However it's been over the last 5 years that I've really looked into my lifestyle in more detail and been more conscience to change my shopping habits. That said, I have found that while I have changed certain aspects of my life style, it's been very easy to fall off the band wagon in others. Namely cosmetics. I read with interest about your homemade examples of moisturizers etc and feel that this is something I'm going to try.’ Heather ‘Love your Confessions of an Eco-Shopper and laughed out loud in places – I recognise such a lot of the issues you wrestle with. I spend far too much of my precious free time trundling down to Tesco’s car park with my huge shopping trolley, clinking with empty bottles and sounding like a lush, or fighting the slugs for my compost bin.’ Doreen ‘Thank you for the wonderful book! got it from the library (v eco-smart!) but then had to buy a copy for my too-high-powered-to-be-green sis (which is better for your sales!! Just thought you'd like to know that Traidcraft do 100% recycled loo roll & tissues, and have the added advantage of also helping a charity which promotes fairtrade and sustainable projects in the developing world - hits 2 targets at once!! Thanks again, and keep up the good work investigating & informing - I'm educating all the women I know in the ways of udder cream & crystal deoderant as fast as i can!’ Kathryn ‘I just wanted to let you know that I have just finished your book and thought it was wonderful. I feel like I am the only person looking for paraben-free cosmetics and washing muddy carrots but you have inspired me to keep going. I have already purchased a crystal deodorant and a mooncup and I intend to look at the websites listed for organic clothing. I have never emailed an author before but I have found your book so helpul and inspiring to continue in my quest to be more eco-friendly. I intend to recommend your book to all of my friends.’ Sarah ‘It taught me a lot and I thought it was very good. Having worked for WWF for 12 years, done bits for Greenpeace and worked very closely with FOE - still masses I do NOT know. Some elements of the book I do already and much I fail abysmally on I am afraid - but I have now folded over the pages on the bits that I think I can manage and plan to do!’ Elizabeth
