The purpose of the blog is to keep you abreast of any updates to the content of the book, as well as allowing me to comment on current environmental stories. If you'd like to get in touch with me about the book or the blog, email me at kate@ecosmartshopper.co.uk

The Press Column contains my weekly columns for The Press newspaper in York from 2006-2007.

Dangerous Love contains interviews about my true-life/crime memoir published by Ebury in 2005.

Reviews is a collection of various theatre and music reviews that I've done for The Press and BBC North Yorkshire

More information about Dangerous Love and my other published works can be found on the Klockworks Website.

View Article  Carfree in the City?
If there is one place you don't want a cab driver to announce 'Taxi for Lock', it's in a room full of delegates venting about gas-guzzling motor vehicles. This was my dilemma last week, when I had to get from the Towards Carfree Cities IX Conference at York's Priory Street Centre to an interview with the Climate Change Minister, Chris Huhne, on the other side of town.   more »

I had a revelation recently, and it came as quite a shock to someone who thought herself a girl-about-town.   more »

Dreaming about the Queen turning up unannounced for tea is, apparently, a common anxiety dream. My mum is prone to recurring nightmares about a Royal visit sans Bourbons, though I'm too busy dodging assassins during REM sleep to worry about a dearth of biscuits for Her Majesty. That being so, Wednesday's event's took on a decidedly dreamlike quality when, out of the blue, I found myself hosting tea and a photocall for Ed Miliband   more »

You name it. Wash it. Fuel it. Fix it. Work in it. Play in it. Love it (sometimes). Curse it (frequently). Pull in it (you wish). And live half your life in it, if the state of some people's cars is anything to go by.   more »

There is a rumour spreading up and down our street. It's come to my ears from more than one source and the cumulative effect is making me doubt all that I had previously held to be true. Tetra Paks can now be recyclied in your green box.   more »

Thank you to all the readers that have contacted me to say how much they've enjoyed Confessions of an Eco-Shopper. I've had some lovely emails and I'd like to share them here. They all make interesting points and I would like this blog to provide a forum for readers to discuss their own experiences of green living. So here are three (and my correspondence with them) to give you a taster. Keep them coming!   more »
View Article  Mooning about in the park
‘You’re brave’. It’s been said before – notably when I published my memoir, Dangerous Love, describing a relationship I had with a psychopathic murderer 25 years ago when I was a naïve undergraduate. And yes, that was quite ‘brave’, in the sense that writing it involved some heavy-duty soul-searching and forced me to be pretty revealing about myself. So I don’t view talking about sanitary protection as quite so daring . . .   more »

This is the title of the workshop I'm running at the York Green Festival in Rowntree Park on Sunday 6 September. I've chosen the subject because those chapters of my book (Confessions of an Eco-Shopper: the true story of one woman's mission to go green) are the ones that seem to have struck the deepest chord with readers, many of whom have emailed me on the subject.   more »
View Article  Say 'No' to Teflon trousers!
It's New School Uniform time again and I'm clearly freakish in trying to find school trousers for my rapidly growing 12-year-old daughter that aren't coated in stain-repellents, waterproofing and fabric protectors, i.e., Dupont's Teflon or some other trade-marked form of fluropolymers.   more »
View Article  Great response to Confessions of an Eco-Shopper!
The new updated and revised paperback edition of Confessions of an Eco-Shopper is now out in shops so this is a good point to relay some of the lovely comments I’ve received from readers that have taken the time and trouble to email me. Thanks to all to them – and please do keep sending me your comments on the book. I endeavour to reply personally and help with any queries if I can. (Kate@klockworks.co.uk)   more »
